New Shoes

In a world in which there are wars being waged, people are starving, homelessness is rampant, public schools are grossly underfunded etc etc etc I feel a bit guilty when I say this:

I just bought a pair of Fluevogs.
Actually, I bought another pair 2 weeks ago so I guess what I’m really trying to say is that I bought TWO pairs of Fluevogs.

The pair I got today is the cutest shoe ever. Really. See?

I told you they are the cutest shoe ever! They are clunky, they have a funny little heel and rugged lumpy soles and they are red and black. What is not to love?

I blame my mother. She is the source of my shoe problems. I am not only a shoe litterer but also an excessive shoe purchaser.

In my own defense, I can state only that they were on sale. I am going to wear them to work tomorrow, and Andi is going to be VERY covetous.

Yarn Yarn Yarn, get your yarn porn here!

And this is another BMFA yarn, Silkie,in the Oregon Red Clover Honey colorway. It is super soft, and the color is so like honey that it makes me hungry!

Life on Earth

You just never know what you’re going to see on PBS, do you?

Snottites and phlegm balls.

These are actual life forms, living in sulfur caves full of hydrogen sulfide gasses and dripping sulfuric acid. Snottite is short for snot stalactite which is what they look like. I guess I don’t have to tell you what phlegm balls look like. They’re both icky but interesting bacterial life forms which thrive in what humans would consider very hostile conditions. If you consider sulfuric acid hostile.

See more here. It’s fascinating in a high “ew factor” way.

See what I mean??

Sometimes life is hard…

Sometimes you have to spend the whole dang weekend in a hammock reading book after book, knitting, and drinking refreshing malty beverages. The whole dang weekend!

Relaxing in a hammock

Yeah, it was difficult, but I managed to make it through the whole weekend. It takes a certain kind of person to handle this level of relaxation. It’s not for the faint of heart.

Hey! There’s a woodpecker in my back yard!

See. A woodpecker. Eating suet.

Or perhaps it is a flicker. It has red cheeks like the picture of a flicker in my Audubon book.

For all I know about birds, it could be an aardvark!

In other important news, I finished knitting a pair of cute cabled footies. They must remained unblogged, as they are for a gift. I am also knitting on Icarus again. Do you think I’ll ever finish, or will I constantly find other more interesting projects to work on?

And because a post isn’t complete without a rant: why is it that I have to work with PEOPLE? This is definitely a week in which it would be better not to have to deal with PEOPLE.

Also, I ordered a pair of Fluevogs on sale and they do not fit. I am sad.

For those of you who’ve been worrying about the mouse situation: no mice have been trapped yet, and YES I cleaned out the cupboards and filled in the mouse entry holes. However, since there is simply no wall at all in between the dishwasher and the cupboard next to it, there is at least one huge gaping hole that my spray foam was powerless to defeat. I suppose I could fill the cupboard with spray foam…I made do with emptying out the cupboard of everything by poison and mouse traps. I am still pondering taking the food away from Mr. Squeeeks until he eliminates the mice.
